Elected Coop and Labour Councillor for the Soho Ward in 2014, with an impressive 81% majority and re-elected to the new North Edgbaston Ward in 2018. Sharon was appointed Cabinet Member for Homes and Neighbourhoods. This position has given her leadership responsibility for housing, parks, allotments, bereavement services and localisation in the largest local authority in Europe.

Sharon has been described as inspiring; self-motivated and a conscientious woman worth listening to.

Initially starting her career with Optima Community Housing Association, she later transitioned from housing into community development, becoming the youngest on her team to manage community centres. Sharon has delivered community engagement through public and third sectors, alongside consultancy.

Her leadership skills have developed through Project Management of various innovative programmes, which has included collaborations with EU partners.

Studying with the OU was the only viable way she could combine study with full-time employment and parenting commitments. She was awarded the Open University in the Midlands Inspirational Learner Award in 2012.

Her passion for communities has led to many opportunities to advocate on behalf of others. Sharon has accepted invitations to the Home Office to participate in government consultations, roundtable discussions with ministers and has shared platforms with renowned speakers such as Rev Al Sharpton and speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP.

Sharon has accepted media invitations on national platforms including BBC Radio 4 and Sky News. She has sat on various panels and keynote speaking engagements speaking honestly to a range of audiences and has been described as ‘an inspirational speaker with a candid approach’.

Sharon has been instrumental in reshaping Birmingham’s approach to tackling homelessness with a vision of a collaborative partnership approachmand in June 2018 she launched Birmingham’s Homeless Prevention Strategy.
